This figure shows the history of JSW M&E’s rolls. The performance of the rolls has been gaining high evaluations by many customers in the world. In 1952, JSW M&E started to manufacture the monoblock type of cast steel back up rolls as shown in blue color. (with the technical cooperation of United Engineering Co. in USA) However, due to the lack of enough resistivity, the cast steel back up rolls caused some troubles of spalling and breakage. In 1962, JSW converted the manufacturing of cast steel back up rolls into the manufacturing of forged steel back up rolls. Thanks to the conversion, all back up rolls for hot strip mills in Japan are forged steel, today.
